- Edward became the king of England on the 20th of January 1936. his reign ended the same year on the 11th of December 1936.
- Wallis Simpson was an American socialite before she met Edward she had been in 2 previous marriages.
- when she was still married she met Edward at an event with the elite of London society whilst Edwards was still a prince in 1931.
- multiple people apposed their marriage, this included their family, government and a lot of the UK. this surrounded many beliefs and general morals. they also didn’t believe the marriage would be worth it due to the fact that Wallis Simpson had been in and out of multiple marriages.
- the only choice that Edward had to get married was to abdicate the throne. he had to leave her or leave the throne and he chose to leave the throne.
- after he abdicated, they married in June 1937 and lived happily married until Edward died in 1972.
- there were quite a few things that this marriage caused in the British empire, it changed the succession line of the royal family and it sparked the constitutional crisis all across the British empire.
- there are quite a lot of similarities that you can pull from both of these stories. a big one being that their marriage goes against everything that the royal family had grown to become. similar to the capulet and Montague feud. this marriage also led to supposed unacceptable behaviour in terms of family. and probably the most important similarity is that they both focus largely on big decisions.
